ALL About CENTRAL NORTH JUNIOR RUGBY...

Central North Junior Rugby Union is the zone that covers the Central New England area of NSW. Our organization is dedicated to promoting and growing the sport of rugby in the region. We believe that rugby is not just a game, but a way of life. Our goal is to provide a fun and safe environment for kids to learn and play rugby, while also fostering a sense of teamwork and sportsmanship. We offer programs for kids of all ages and skill levels, from U6's to U18's.

HISTORY

In the late 1980’s and early 1990’s, Rugby Union was being played by many youngsters in an informal manner in towns throughout the Central North Region. After seeing children running around on the field week in week out, the idea was floated by a Moree gentleman in the early 1990’s, whom had a distinguished Club rugby playing career himself and today is still involved and an avid supporter of Club Rugby in the Region, to have Junior Clubs host and play a series of games in a carnival atmosphere against the other Central North teams that made up the Senior competition.

After discussions with supporters in other towns and with everyone now in favour of this model, it was agreed to proceed with the idea and develop a junior competition. Not long after, saw the commencement of Central North Junior Rugby Union with 8 towns participating. The zone has continued to develop & grow since the early years, with (10) towns now making up the competition. These being: Moree, Narrabri, Gunnedah, Tamworth, Quirindi, Scone, Walcha, Barraba, Inverell & Coonabarabran. The Zone is also fortunate to be given the opportunity to play an ‘Out of Zone’ carnival each year to finish the season in Armidale.

Carnivals are hosted each fortnight during the season where children aged from U6 – U12 have the opportunity to develop skills & enjoy playing this great game. This has now expanded to a Friday night competition involving all the towns from the zone and boarding schools in Tamworth and Armidale, where players from U14-U18, both boys and girls meet in hubs to compete in the North West Youth Region Competition. The Zone is well known for its strength, dedication, and promotion of the game, together with producing talented youth through its Representative teams.

These Representative teams give opportunities to players who are looking to improve on their own game, together with aiming for higher honors all while forging friendships as a result of the experiences shared.

Central North currently have (14) Representative Age Groups, U10 – U18, providing opportunities to approximately 380 players (boys & girls) per year, cross both XVs and 7s rugby.
